Seattle-Based Work

Home to Seattle research reports, student-led project showcase, and Seattle-based papers

Lost In Seattle?

The reality of a city that’s emulsified with boundless growth and opportunities also comes with immense loss.

However, because of this, Seattle has become unaffordable to many, pushing Seattle natives out making room for newcomers…

With tech-booming industries, scenic views, vibrant culture, and a thriving economy, Seattle is the right place to be.

Do You Resonate?

If so, within this Seattle Hub, we have made it our mission to support those facing eviction or displacement, providing resources to seek help, landlord information, strategies to avoid eviction, and more! While we are Seattle-based, many of our tools can be utilized for situations outside of the city too.

Changes to The Seattle Demographic

Due to evolving tech, economic shifts, and population migration in Seattle, racial demographics are constantly changing across the Greater Seattle Area. Populations are moving to North Seattle, dispersing throughout the area, or being pushed outside the city. This project aims to create a platform that clearly shows these patterns, helping tenants choose stable housing locations and visualize racial demographic transitions.

How It Works

This resource is built upon U.S. Census ACS Demographic Data. To start, choose a location, the graphs will automatically provide summarized data for the demographic of the selected city. To dive deeper, specify a zip code and types of people.

UW Displacement Guide Projects

Created by students in GEOG 447 Winter ‘24: Advanced Urban Geography. Projects catered to the general public to better understand what gentrification and displacement is and its impacts. Also includes how groups of the past or future might organize against it.
